Welcome to the Atresia Microtia Foundation, a group of parents and professionals dedicated to sharing information and treatment options pertaining to these condition.

Congratulations for having found our site. The Internet is an amazing resource for collecting information, and we have tried to consolidate the best reliable information on the Internet on Atresia and Microtia.

Atresia, microtia, and the associated syndromes that occasionally cause them, can be considered orphan conditions at best. The incidence ranges from 1 in 900 in some small Native American and Asian groups to 1 in 20,000 in larger isolated Caucasian groups. The average over all ethnic groups is approximately 1 in 6,000. The cause in the majority of cases of atresia and microtia is completely unknown. In a minority of cases, the atresia and/or microtia are just one symptom of a more complex syndrome, such as Treacher-Collins, Hemifacial Microsomia (HFM), or Branchio-Oto-Renal (BOR) Syndrome.
